From My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers
"Pride is the deification of self, and this today in some of us is not of the order of the Pharisee, but of the publican. To say "Oh, I'm no saint," is acceptable to human pride, but it is unconscious blasphemy against God. It literally means that you defy God to make you a saint, "I am much too weak and hopeless, I am outside the reach of the Atonement." Humility before men may be unconscious blasphemy before God. Why are you not a saint? It is either that you do not want to be a saint, or that you do not believe God can make you one."
So what do I, do you say to that?
Now some notes I've taken during recent messages I've heard:
God is at work through and in our distress and difficulty. We are to tremble at God's Word.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is against our earning salvation but not against effort to be like Christ in our daily living. Grace has character that makes for decisive action in daily living.
Effort is not to do for God but to wait on God.
No matter what is happening yet I will rejoice in God my salvation.
Salvation through Jesus Christ by grace through faith needs to be our foundation and confidence in life not vocation, location, relationships or position.
Lament is the cry of faith when faith is being stretched. It gives voice to what we see in the world is not right, a prayer that ends with the appeal of God to come, a cry that knows the promises of God will be fulfilled.
The Lord answer you in the day of trouble!
The name of the God of Jacob [and of Jesus] protect you.
May God send you help from the sanctuary [from heaven],
and give you support from Zion.
May God remember all your offerings,
and regard with favor your burnt offerings [promises].
May God grant you your heart's desire,
and fulfill all your plans. Psalm 20:1-4
SELAH - Think on that!
