5th Sunday of Easter

So here are a few scripture verses that caught my attention this week.

Acts 8:35 "Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with the Scripture he told [the Eithiopian eunuch] the good news about Jesus."
It is important to meet people where they are and connect them to Jesus. I am not always so alert to to opportunities with people for sharing the Good News of Jesus.

Psalm 22:30-31 "Posterity will serve Him [the Lord], future generations will be told about the Lord, and proclaim His deliverance to a people yet unborn saying He has done it."
Yes, the Lord has done great things and they need to be told to others. I want my children and grandchildren to know, and receive the deliverance of the Lord God for their life. This is primary for everyone.

I John 4:9 "God's love was revealed among us in this way: God sent His only Son into the world so that we might live through Him."
Jesus is this Son who came from God to be the savior of the world and give His life as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. (v.10) This is the deliverance that we speak about in reference to the previous verse from Psalm 22. Jesus is the only way that a person can say that God is love.
Wonderful news, I am loved by God and forgiven all my sins because of what Jesus did on the cross for me. There are still sins that plague me but they do not plague God for God forgives and forgets. Oh that I could forget but my human nature does not let go so easily of these personal failures.

Hebrews 7:25 "Consequently he [Jesus] is able for all time to save those who approach God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them."
This verse is given in the context of Jesus being an eternal priest in the order of Melchizedek who appeared to Abraham toward the beginning of God's covenant redemption story. It is the resurrection of Jesus that gives him the right and power to be this forever priest. Jesus saves those who approach God through him. Here again is the message of salvation that is to be proclaimed and received and believed. Please note also that this Jesus is praying for us who belong to him. There could be no better prayer partner for you or me than the Son of God, Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ. Wow! This is spectacular news that we can embrace and be encouraged by in our pilgrimage through this earthly life.

This past lent I used the devotional Pauses For Lent in which the author picked one word for each day and reflected on it. Since Easter began I decided to seek one word for each day from my lectionary Bible readings. I've tried not to duplicate any word from the lent words or the ones I've selected previously. So here are my seven words for this week. You can put your own content into them.

Understand
Speak
Tell
Revealed
Perfect
Abide
Always

May the Lord's favor shine upon you and give you peace and joy!
