Cup overflows

As we come to Thanksgiving I say with the Psalmist, "my cup overflows" I am abundantly blessed and so grateful to know the goodness and care of the LORD God for my life.

Here is one of the daily prayers from this past week: "Eternal God, we live by your grace. I pray you make my soul wide and rich. Spare me from self-sufficiency and vain satisfaction with my self. Fill my heart with holy longing. Let me not be satisfied until I awaken in your image." Amen.

Jesus tells us in Luke 12:31-32; "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom." Dallas Willard (1935-2013) comments on that verse:
"Knowing the voice of God so that we have a practical understanding of that voice in our minds and hearts is not a luxury for the people of God. It is not something to be allocated to those who enjoy special spiritual high points. All believers need this direct, daily access to the kingdom of God.
We will not receive the direction we need from the Bible alone or from our subjective experiences alone or from the interpretation of circumstances alone. This was never intended by God. We must be spoken to by God, specifically and concretely guided in thought and action, to the extent and through the channels God chooses."

Today is the last Sunday of the lectionary year and we celebrate Christ the King Sunday. Tomorrow, Monday will be the first day of Advent with next Sunday the first Sunday of Advent. Here are the lectionary readings and the word I selected from the readings for special reflection and thought. I share them with you for your own reflection and thought.
