I'm not sure how this comes through but I like to use the large print in typing which is no doubt a sign of my age. And my age has been showing lately as I've been helping to build a new Tulip Time float for Ditto which is the upscale used clothing/furniture/miscellaneous store that raises funds for Holland/Zeeland Christian schools. My muscles and joints are stiff and sore. Joyce is working there on Thursdays helping to sort clothes. I've also done some pick-up and deliveries for them with other men.
This is a big weekend for our Holland family as Juliana plays Ariel in the middle school (7,8 &9th grades) musical "The Little Mermaid". We saw the performance on Thursday night and will see it again tonight. Sarah and Maya drove in yesterday and Sarah went to the performance last night. (Joel couldn't come as he leaves for Germany tomorrow for his work.) So we'll have fun having them here for the week before we leave for Fulton next weekend and Mom Sikkema's 90th birthday celebration with most of my family.
I've been reading Walker Percy's The Moviegoer mostly on recommendation of the Image magazine web site of Walker as a writer. I must admit I'm not following the storyline entirely. However one of the quotes used by the main character Jack to describe his great uncle Jules was quite intriguing as well as applicable to many of us. Here it is for your reflection:
"For the world he lives in, the City of Man, is so pleasant that the City of God must hold little in store for him."
It brings to mind the words of Jesus in describing the seed of the word sown among thorns which Jesus said represented the cares pleasures, comfort and wealth of this world (City of Man) which choked the Word so that it yielded nothing. (Matthew 13:22)
We or most in USA are so blessed and prosperous that we need to be on guard lest this truth from Jesus be fulfilled in our living in the City of Man.
Remember: "Do what God says and say what God does!"
