It is Memorial Day and the so called start to summer. I don't know if that makes any difference to retired folk since we can pretty much come and go as we please. But we do like the warmer weather though we have not had a lot of that yet. Supposedly this week now will be warmer. Joyce and I had a nice overnight on Saturday. We browsed the Amish area of Shipshewana IN in the afternoon. It was a nice day but again on the cool side. There are lots of unique shops and "old world" areas to walk through. We saw many horse and buggies on the roads. We spent the evening in Goshen IN. We had our evening meal at a quaint local restaurant. We walked through the lovely campus of Goshen College, a school of the Mennonite tradition. Sunday morning we attended a contemporary worship service at Maple City Chapel. I think we both did a first which my good friend Harold V. in Luverne will really appreciate. We wore blue jeans to worship. I don't think it will become normal for us by any means. On our way home we did the River Walk in Elkhart IN which was very nice. Then we stopped In Notre Dame IN and did a walk on the campus of Notre Dame University. This too is a lovely, well maintained campus. There is a small lake on the north end of the campus which has a mile (?) trail around it which we enjoyed doing.
We were home today and had Leah's family here for the traditional holiday evening meal of grilled burgers and side dishes plus Joyce's wonderful strawberry pie.
Here is some spiritual edification (from a Guide To Prayer for All Who Seek God):
"The church especially remembers in worship and deeds the truth that God dwells within the body of Christ and within the believer. Through the Holy Spirit, God companions, directs, and gives power, wisdom, courage and faith to believers and the church for living obediently. Therefore, the church -- gathered and dispersed -- not only represents God but also in a real way embodies God in the world. Christians seek to bring justice, peace, and love to every situation because we embody the very God we worship. No day can be ordinary when God dwells within. Every day is seen as blessed and holy, filled with opportunity and grace for all who put their trust in God."
It is helpful to remember that God is within and will be sufficient for our every need. We are never alone. This is our joy and peace.
Remember: "Do what God says and say what God does."
From Barbara and Gene DeMaster: Sounds like a fun weekend. Since Gene and I are still part time retirees, our every other week is flexible and we are in that week at the lake. Our lower level finishing project starts tomorrow and hopefully will be done by August. A very nice guest bedroom and fireplace/TV room is in the plan, tailored just for great friends like you and Joyce! Have a wonderful week and hi to Joyce and your kids.
