Lord's Supper

On this day in history in the year 1968 Joyce and I married and became husband and wife. Yes, 46 years ago. Thank you for your thoughts of congratulations and happy anniversary. We had a quiet day actually. Sarah and family left us this morning as we headed off to worship. They decided they needed to travel to Joel's parents in Dayton Ohio as Joel's dad has been having some health issues. We pray that it goes well for them as they care for them. We did worship followed by dinner at Leah's house where we enjoyed great leftovers from our meals over Christmas week. We then had our usual Sunday afternoon nap and walk. We have been home this evening and over our light supper I asked Joyce, "How many meals do you think we've shared together?" She smiled and responded that there have been many. And as to number only God knows but I doubt that God has kept track of that trivial number in the greater scheme of life. We are blessed and our thankful for a love that has endured through the seasons of life. We are grateful for the unseen presence of God in our marriage and for the ways in which we have been developed in our marriage relationship.
Tomorrow we will drive to Fulton for an overnight and quick visit to my mom as well as see a couple of siblings who will be able to be there also.

Here are thoughts on the Lord's Supper, the Eucharist, Holy Communion which is a gift of God to the Christian community. Some this is taken from Called To Be Saints by Gordon T. Smith.

The Lord's Supper brings together Christ Jesus as the ascended Lord-- our hope is in him-- and Christ Jesus as the fulfillment of the deepest yearnings of the human soul...the Eucharist is an entrance of the Church into the joy of the Lord...and to enter into that joy so as to be a witness to it in the world.
The Lord's Supper is the supreme encounter between the risen and ascended Christ and his people. It is the event in which Christ in real time receives us in a joyous feast of celebration and anticipation. In this meal we declare that evil does not have the last word and that one day Jesus will make all things well. Christ hosts this meal, and each time we meet him at the table, we choose again to rejoice in him, to bring our sorrows again before the throne of grace, to once more delight in his good gifts and to receive afresh the deep hope without which we cannot live.
And then Christ feeds us-- he gives us his very self, through the gracious power of the Holy Spirit, to go in peace, in joy and with courage into a fallen and broken world. So the benediction of Jude is very fitting as we move from the holy table back into the world committed to live again the joy of the Lord facing honestly the sins and failures of our human nature.
Now to Him who is able to keep you from falling, and to make you stand without blemish in the presence of God's glory with rejoicing, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen [Jude 24-25]

A new year begins this week. However you celebrate it may you know the care, love and presence of God who is beyond time and waits to share eternity with us.
Joy and Peace!
