No Sting to Death

Hebrews 2:14 "So that by is death he might destroy him who holds the power of death!"

Death has lost its sting, because the devil's power over it is destroyed. Then why are we afraid to die?
Ask God to give you such deep awareness of your Redeemer's death that you will be strengthened for that final hour. Living near the cross of Calvary, you may think of death with pleasure and welcome it with intense delight when it comes.
It is sweet to die in the LORD. It is a covenant blessing to "fall asleep" in Jesus. Death is no longer a banishment; it is a return from exile, a going home to the "many mansions" where our loved ones already live.
The disance between the glorified spirits in heaven and the militant saints on earth may seem great, but it's not really. We are not far from home -- we're just a moment away. The sail is spread, the soul is launched upon the sea -- how long will the voyage be? How long will the soul be tossed on the waves before it comes to the stormless sea? Listen to the answer: "absent from the body...present with the Lord" (II Corinthians 5:8 KJV). The ship just departed, but already it has reached its haven. Like that storm-tossed ship on the Sea of Galilee-- Jesus said, "Peace be still," and immediately it came to land.
No, don't expect a long period between the moment of death and the eternity of glory. When the eyes close on earth, they open in heaven. So what is there for you to fear? The curse of death has been destroyed by our Lord Jesus. It is now only a "Jacob's ladder," with its foot in the dark grave, but its top reaching to eternal glory."  [Charles Hadden Spurgeon]
