Overshadowed

Another birthday has gone by. My Michigan children treated Joyce and I to the Christmas concert by Point of Grace and Natalie Grant in Grand Rapids. We had a good time. Joyce and I also celebrated it by eating out a couple nights later at a favorite restaurant. Life indeed has been good. Now we wait this week to be joined by our Wisconsin children who are driving in on Christmas Eve. We anticipate a meaningful and joyous Christmas celebration. It may or may not be white. At present we have a very light covering of snow on the ground with the possibility of more coming on Christmas Eve.

This past week the gospel lectionary reading was Luke 1:26-38 which is known as "The Annunciation;" the account of Mary receiving the news that she will conceive by Holy Spirit and give birth to the Christ child. Read these two verses that caught my attention in my read of the passage this week.
"The angel said to her (Mary), "The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy, he will be called Son of God...
For nothing will be impossible with God."  Luke 1:35, 37 NRSV

This same Holy Spirit is in my life and the power of God is at work in my life. I do not need to have fear in my life for the Most High is sufficient for my every need. I pray for God to help me overcome the challenges to my life of faith and relationship with God. Mary conceives and gives birth to Jesus my (our) Savior without any human help (no sexual intercourse). I (we) are redeemed by Jesus without any work on my (our) part.It is God's grace/favor/love. God does the impossible in saving me from condemnation by God and alienation from God. So I am glad and rejoice in God my Savior. It is good and right to belong to God. May the Christ of Christmas overshadow you and give you the riches of God. "Go tell it on your mountain!"
