"No unbelief made Abraham waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what God had promised."
Romans 4:20-21 (ESV)
I desire a faith like that. If you read the original Abraham story you might question Paul's interpretation or understanding of the faith of Abraham. We can have a faith that does not waver but it will not be our doing but the work of Holy Spirit within us. The English Standard Version study Bible says this regarding faith and grace, "There is a special relationship between faith and grace: Faith means trusting in another, not in one's own efforts. Faith therefore corresponds exactly to grace, which involves trusting God's gift of unmerited favor.
Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace you have been saved through faith, this is not your own doing but the gift of God..." The gift of God is not only grace but also faith "so that none of us may boast".
I'm certainly not boasting for I know where I would be without God's grace and love. It would not be favorable. Holy Spirit help me "grow strong in faith as I give glory to God" and live "convinced that God is able to do what God has promised."
What has God promised you? What promises of God are your strength, joy and peace?
From my journaling book: "Peace is the gift of God. Do you want peace? Go to God." I like what Isaiah said about this. "God will keep in perfect peace one whose mind is fixed on God because they trust in God." I see that this also connects to the Romans 4 passage and Abraham's faith.
Now I'm going for a swim in the outdoor lap pool. It happens to be a gorgeous day in Chandler AZ with sunny clear skies and temperature around 75. I just had to include this information so our children will know that we are doing okay and enjoying our time away.
