You may not want to read the following quote. I copied it down as it may reflect what a lot of people think and feel which I assume the author of the book does. Then again it may not be true for her. The quote is from the Pulitzer Prize winning book The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. It was a Kindle recommended read that I thought might be good. I cannot recommend it as it is filled with lots that is immoral and negative. Again be careful if you follow through in reading this quote.
"Life is catastrophe. The basic fact of existence - of walking around trying to feed ourselves and find friends and whatever else we do - is catastrophe...Better never born, than born into this cesspool, sinkhole of hospital beds, coffins and broken hearts...no way forward but age and loss, no way out but death. Does it make any sense at all to know that it ends badly for all of us, even the happiest of us, and that we all lose everything that matters in the end -- and yet to know as well, despite all this, as cruelly as the game is stacked that it is possible to play it with a kind of joy."
Sorry to say there is no idea of God's grace, presence and transforming power that can radically make a difference when life is catastrophe and dismal. Here are a few other quotes I noted from the read.
"Coincidence -- God's way of remaining anonymous."
"Isn't everything worthwhile a gamble?"
"Can't good come around sometime through some strange back doors."
"Sometimes you have to lose to win." [Jesus said something similar to this.]
Here's a positive from St. Augustine in reference to I John 2:20 "But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and all of you have knowledge."
"Hold fast to Christ. For you he became temporal so that you might partake of eternity."
Joy and peace to each of you. "Do what God says and say what God does."
